Modern train station at Marrakech

The train station is big!

Great seafood platter in one of Marrakech's ville nouvelle eateries

Into the medina

Lunch in Mechoui Alley!!

I love these hole-in-the-wall eating places!

Mechoui is roasted lamb, and here you pay a certain price and they cut a certain portion of the lamb for you. Comes with a piece of your khoobz flatbread, tea, and salt to taste....

Mechoui is traditionally roasted underground in Marrakech, but here the guy is hoisting up pots of lamb stew, so I supposed its some sort of underground heating!

Quieter alleys in Marrakech medine

Early morning in the medina, before the shops start opening...

The communal baker... He bakes other people's bread! Residents make their own bread dough, and convene to certain "bakery" to have their bread baked!

Breads are baked using wood fire!

The baked bread awaiting collectin!

A sundial!

Ali ben Youssef Medersa, Marrakech's theological college

Mohammed ben el-Hair has been around. His shop is featured in several guidebooks, and he has a stack of postcards/pictures from tourist all over. He'll get one from Singapore :)

There have been complaints abt the lack of rules in the medina on the type of traffic allowed in.

Even cars are allowed in! And the medina lanes are not exactly wide...

One of many foodstuff stalls

Bought some nuts, apricots and figs!

Henna painters in D'jemaa el Fna

D'jemaa el Fna is the grand square of Marrakech. When evening approaches, these carts start to move in, and food stalls will begin to operate...

The sight, sound, and smell of D'jemaa el Fna is magical!

When night falls, it is even more happening!

Musicians and story-tellers gather, and so will the crowds (and tourists)

Eating at one of the stalls is definitely a must. Deciding which one is the problem!

Spiced tea and an equally spiced beanlike stuff...

A bowl of snails...

Seafood stall. Check out stall 14! Long queues!

Tangia or lamb stew, again with the flatbread.

Brains anyone?

The cleanup next day!

Rooftop tiles of my hotel, Grand Central, which overlooks D'jemaa el Fna!

The Koutoubia minaret

The gardens outside Koutoubia Mosque

Taking a break outside the Mosque.

As night falls, many of the locals sit around outside the Koutoubia mosque to pass time...
