Tokaj

Entering Tokaj!

We unknowingly stumbled onto the final night of a 3-day festival! So there was lots of street food, wine, and performances

Very yummy pizza!

Didn't know what this was called until after the trip. Kürtoskalács is a kind of
bread/pastry that is covered with flavoured sweet stuff. The dough is rolled on a wooden cylinder and baked over an open fire!
It's supposed to be usually seen during festivals only! Cool, and quite yummy!

Quite a crowd watching the performances

We found this delightful homestay, and while the host Ana, speaks no English, we mimed, pointed, and talked our way to a cosy 2 nights stay in Tokaj!

How we found this guesthouse? We walked house to house where there are signs of Zimmer Frei (room available)!

And guess what? Almost every household has their own palinka!

Ana, our friendly host

Some sort of bird nests just outside our guesthouse!

Cool old lady riding the street of Tokaj

Check out those balloons masquerading as grapes!

One of many wine cellars in Tokaj, this one is right in town!

We passed by either a children day-care centre or a school, and spent some time photographing them

One of the teachers, who had hair that matched some of the autumn colours...

Went to a vineyard/cellar thats out of town - Dereszla Pinceszet

Yes, the famous Tokaji wine

A visit to the underground cellar

The cellar quite blew us away; the scale of it is astonishing!

Imagine these going on for kilometres!

The amazing thing is, our "guide" was not officially a guide! He happens to be a trainee of some sort and literally brought us all over the winery, including the production room, explaining the entire process!!

And they do still step on grapes!!! :)

Visited another winery while we had the time

Wanted to do some wine tasting and visited Disznóko

Again, we are brought to the cellar

Paid for a "package" of winetasting, with 3 wines of varying "sweetness"

All the tasting is done in the cellar, with the guide explaining the different kinds of Tokaji wines

Wine's so good we each got one although its like only our 3rd day of our trip!

Amazing sunset at the vineyard

Our final morning at Hungary/Tokaj before we travel to Romania!

A simple meal before boarding our train

Some friendly locals

Our journey to Cluj would have to change trains at Püspökladány

Long story short, but we missed our stop and had to re-purchase our tickets, and in the end, reach Cluj at 2am!!

Should have been enjoying the sunset on the train to Cluj, but while we are waiting at Szolnok train station, mind as well take some shots

A comedy of errors, this is the first class cabin.....
