At the end of the rainy season, this māk deuy seems to be in every Lao's hands (esp women). It's the nut at the top of the stem that everyone pops into their mouth, and its supposed to be something like a peanut or pea. The name, according to my guidebook, translates to "Job's tears", whatever that means..
